Let's Get Wacky!
If you have not read my story "Kaeslyn" (on my Elfwood page) then I suggest that you do that first. Othewise, you won't have all that much of an idea of what is going on. As for the green Editor comments, her story has yet to make it's debute, so if some things don't make sense, don't worry! (it does to us)
Before the beginning of time, the gods Lamora of the Moon and Heli of the Sun and their children looked upon this barren planet and proclaimed, "Let there be life on this world!"
World Eeeeeeeeeew! Peeeeeeeople! Hey, how 'bout YOU guys have things crawl around on YOU! Heh, see if you like it!
-Heli- Hey! Don't blame us! The author told us too!
-Author- Well, it has to take place somewhere!
-Kaeslyn- Noooooooooooooooooooo! Not a parody! I've been warned about these!
-Author- You've participated in a few, dear.
-Kaeslyn- So? Why does that make me parody-fodder?
-Ree, Muffin, and the entire cast of the Trio, and Cathryn's Tale- Because. Just, because.
-Kerry- Trying to reason with Authors is usually futile.
-Editor and Author- ::grin:: Isn't it, though?
Their daughter, Esrana, became Princess of the Winds. She was to control storms and the winds, bringing forth the birds and flying insects to be Her children.
-Author- Spaceships? They fly!
-Esrana- No, dear. That would be SPACE. Not Air.
-Editor- This is high fantasy! Not sci-fi! No spaceships allowed!!
-Author- ::opens mouth, pauses, and shuts it:: Oh... I knew that. I was testing you. Luckily, you passed with flying colors.
-Editor- Umm... yeah, right. You just go on believing that, dear.
Their son, Odinar, became Prince of the Seas. He was to control the oceans, lakes, rivers, and seas and the bounty of life within them. He brought forth the creatures and plants of the water to be His children.
-Author- Submarines? Oh... wait. High Fantasy.
-Editor- GOOD Author! You get a cookie!
-Author- ::grin::
Another daughter, Saltira, became Princess of the Earth. She was to control the land and the bounty of life put forth from it. She brought forth the creatures and plants of the land to be Her children.
-Larhala, Daksyn- Ah, terrain population. SUCH fun!
-Saltira- Only if you have someone to populate WITH!!!! Author...
-Author- Hey, I was only told about six of you! Kaeslyn...
-Kaeslyn- What? That's all there are! Don't blame me for the belief system I was raised on!
-Saltira- ::sigh:: Paradoxes!
The last child of Lamora and Heli, Martaro, became Prince of the Flames for He had a vicious and fiery temper. He was to rule the volcanoes, lightning, and fire itself. He brought forth the creatures of fire to be His children.
-Sayeera- And WE brought forth...?
-Author- Not in THIS land, hon.
-Sayeera- Pity. It's far more exciting the other way.
-Martaro- Don't I know it!!!
-Editor- ::censors the next few lines:: Break it up you two! Frolic on your own time!
-Martaro- Oh, WE'VE got time. Trust me. ::winks at Sayeera::
-Sayeera- ::winks back and smiles suggestively::
-Editor- You two are dismissed for the day... and night...
Lamora and Heli also granted gifts to this world. From Heli's palm walked the humans, whose tanned skin and dark hair reflected His influence. From Lamora's palm came the elves, whose platinum hair and pale complexion reflected Her influence.
-Semora- ::scoffs indignantly:: Are you saying that all tall dark and handsome men are human?!
-Kaeslyn- ::sigh:: Elves...
-Ree- Oh, we wood elves have the tall dark and handsome type too. You're just on the wrong side of the cliff, dear.
-Semora- Hmmmm.. I'm not sure I want to have to throw myself at a man. That is, provided I can even see him from the top of that cliff.
-Kaeslyn- Fine. ::sigh:: HIGH elves...
-Ree- ::chuckles::
-Erisha- Ahem. YOUNG High elves. (That man of yours, Kae, is not too shabby! Well, for a human, of course.)
-Torin- ::pointedly ignores the conversation::
-Demar- Hmm.. pointed... nice. VERY nice...
-Torin- ::inches a bit closer to Kaeslyn::
In the beginning, both elves and humans controlled many forms of magic. They lived in peace with each other and the animals. The elves and humans shared their new innovations and prospered together as equals. Both races gave thanks to the gods for all the gifts They had bestowed.
Eventually, the humans discovered that flames could be used for more than warmth and cooking food.
-Fire Pixie- Destruction! Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire!!!
-Author- ::slowly and veeeeeeeery quietly places a strong metal cage around the pixie:: It'll be ooooookay, dear. The nice men will come and let you stare at a candle all day if you like.
-Fire Pixie- ::pants:: Fire? I play with fire? ::grins::
-Author- Noooo, but you can look at fire. Say buh-bye now.
-Fire Pixie- Buh-bye! ::waves as nice men drag cage away::
-Kaeslyn- Whew!! Good thing you work on a computer now!
-Author- No kidding!
They discovered that melting two metals together made a very strong composite metal.
-Author- Cookie for the humans!
The man who discovered this, however, claimed it was the result of his own magic and failed to pay proper respect to Martaro, evoking His mighty wrath.
-Author- Minus one cookie for humans.
Martaro took His anger out on all of humankind. He wanted all of humanity destroyed for the outrage the inventor had caused Him.
He lit the flames of jealousy and greed in the hearts of the humans.
-Kaeslyn- Wouldn't that hurt? I mean, I once burned my finger and that hurt.
-Author- It's a metaphor, dear. Don't worry about it.
-Kaeslyn- Oh. ::thinks for a moment:: So, were they green flames? Or just regular orangey ones.
He hoped that their selfishness would drive them to war with both each other and the elves, for the elves were allied with the humans. In the eyes of the great Fire God, the elves deserved to be wiped out with them.
His scheme succeeded and great wars ravaged the land for many generations. Humans massacred each other without mercy, and eventually turned their armies on the elves.
-Elves- Well, they are human. Was this not to be expected?
Heli and Lamora were outraged by the acts of the both the humans and Their son. Heli stripped many of His children of their powers, so they could not further harm themselves or other creatures with it. But They could do nothing about Martaro directly for the laws of the heavens forbade Them direct interference with another god's dealings in the world of men and elves.
-Kaeslyn- Damn rules.
Their children, the humans and elves, would have to defeat Him themselves.
And so Lamora and Heli sent a proclamation to each of Their peoples. The Sha'talme, meaning "Peacebringer" in the Old Tongue, would come to them and lead them into a time of great destruction: a time where kingdoms would rise and fall in the space of a year. Out of this destruction, though, would rise a great nation and those still left in the world would once again know the peace it had left behind so long before.
Heli sent His message to the humans through the ancient prophet, Kalan. At first, Kalan's predictions were ignored, deemed the ravings of a madman. Thankfully for the human race, the young Rotalin saw the truth in Kalan's words and many years later recorded them in the tome now famous for its contents. It was not until nearly six hundred years after Rotalin's death that the first signs of the prophecy began to occur, for the immortal gods have no use for time.
-Martaro- Oh, I beg to differ.
-Sayeera- ::grins::
Scribes copied the ancient work to meet the great demand for it, though the knowledge of the ancient language of their forefathers was fast escaping them, and gave the humans the form used today -
Hope will again return to the land, as the bloodshed between the humans and elves is ended. With this hope will return the crops that have so long been absent from the stomachs of the needy.
-Kaeslyn- Why must you starve people to make a point?
-Saltira- We were thinning the ranks of such violent creatures. We didn't want their armies to strengthen!
-Heli- Besides, your ancestors survived. Does it really matter that much to you?
There will come one who is destined for greatness, though they begin life low among their peers. This Sha'talme shall bring together elf and human blood, and the road out of the darkness shall be seen and evil will quake with it’s coming.
-Kaeslyn- Must you be so vague? No wonder we had to wait until the actual events happened to understand it!
-Lamora- Well, honestly! Did you want us to make it clear enough for everyone to understand?
-Kaeslyn- It would have made things a lot easier for those of us doing all the work down here.
-Lamora- ::Sighs:: Meanwhile your enemies would have known exactly what was going on, too.
-Kaeslyn- Oh. Heh, I never thought of that.
-Heli and Lamora- I could tell.
Others shall join the quest, becoming the Knight Defender and Protectress of Taloria. Both death and peace shall ride in the wake of the Triad, bringing both sadness and joy to the land and people.
The Guardian of the Unseen shall turn away from a great disaster, giving her heart to a Tarmorak. The Sovereign Sister and Knight Defender, if successful in freeing themselves from her spell, shall rule all Taloria in peace and prosperity.
-Kaeslyn- Why does everything always happen to me?
-Author- Because, deary, you're my baby. Your life has to be exciting. And anyway, not everything happened to you.
-Tylora and Torin- Ahem?
-Torin- Don't you remember who had to save your tail a couple of times?
-Kaeslyn- Heh, sorry there. You know I love you guys... right? Have I mentioned how utterly grateful I am to you both?
As yet another generation went by, the prophecy was again cast aside. It began to be forgotten by the masses, only the most faithful remembering the full message...
